Luxury fashion brands will often push the boundaries of fashion, whether it’s to make a statement, try to spark a new trend, or simply to mess with all of us. Fashion house Balenciaga is the latest brand to do just that, though it has a history of dramatic and head-scratching designs.
The brand previously released a trash bag pouch, coffee cups that cost $100, and now they’re back with another product that has gotten people talking.
The fashion brand has joined forces with Frito-Lay in order to produce a leather purse that looks just like a Lay’s potato chips bag. The clutch bag could be perfect for fashion lovers who like out-there design, but could also be admired by those who love potato chips.
The clutch bag does come with a price tag that’s far different from an actual bag of Lay’s potato chips. If you want the leather bag, you’ll have to fork over $1800, according to Hypebeast.
Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia shared images of the bag on Instagram accompanied with the caption: “the Lay’s x Balenciaga leather chip bag,” which as you might image, caused quite a lively discussion in the comment section.
One user shared: “At this point I think Balenciaga is a social experiment,” bringing up a point that many have thought about. Another user defended the bag, saying: “This is art and humor nothing more. They will go down in history for making a joke which I think is pretty fun.”
One user actually chimed in with a request, saying: “Please make one out of pickle chips.” We’re personally wondering if there will be a cheddar cheese option to choose from.
As of now, the bag has not been listed on the brand’s website, so it might take some time before it will actually be available for purchase and we’ll get to find out if it will make a statement or will fade into oblivion.
